Mike received his B.A. from Northwestern University in 1987, and his J.D. from the University of Washington in 1990, making him the most senior attorney at Smith + Malek, where he gets to work alongside his daughter, attorney Hannah Andazola. Before joining what he calls a “different kind of law firm,” Mike was a partner at Marcus, Christian & Hardee.
Mike brings deep experience in business, real estate, natural resources, administrative law, and litigation. For nearly 30 years, he has represented businesses of all sizes with interests ranging from real estate to mining and ranching, to internet-based business. He represents active operators in oil and gas exploration for all Idaho legal needs.
One of Michael’s biggest accomplishments in law was defeating CERCLA cost recovery claim for historic mine tailing contamination.
What’s your favorite quote?
“Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can. Point out to them how the nominal winner is often a real loser—in fees, expenses, and waste of time. As a peacemaker, the lawyer has a superior opportunity of being a good man. There will still be business enough.” —Abraham Lincoln
