Kolby Reddish is a litigation attorney focused on civil litigation, appellate practice, municipal law, and taxation. Based out of our Boise office, Kolby brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our team.

Kolby began his legal career as a clerk for the Idaho Supreme Court. After practicing as an attorney for all three branches of Idaho’s state government, Kolby is breathing new life into his passion for public service at Smith + Malek.

As an adjunct professor at the University of Idaho College of Law, teaching, mentoring, and working with the next generation of lawyers is part of Kolby’s passion. He has also presented or published on law and policy in conjunction with The College of Idaho, the Idaho State Bar, and the Idaho Municipal Attorneys Association, among others.

Kolby is a member of The Advocate Editorial Board and the American Inn of Court #131 and a former Chairperson of the Government and Public Sector Lawyers Section of the Idaho State Bar and the Attorneys for Civic Education. He’s a recipient of the Idaho State Bar’s 2022 ‘Outstanding Young Lawyer’ award in recognition of his service to both the legal community and the public.

Outside of the office and classroom, Kolby spends most of his time with his wife and three kids. They enjoy reading, learning, spending time outdoors, and playing board games.

Please provide an original quote that captures your approach to your career, the practice of law, or your clients.

“The leading rule for the lawyer, as for the man of every other calling, is diligence. Leave nothing for tomorrow which can be done today.” – Abraham Lincoln.

Name your all-time favorite book.

Dune by Frank Herbert and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

What’s a life goal you have?

I have a passion for helping citizens, especially the rising generations, better understand civics and their government. I would be thrilled to write a book that helps kids see the valuable role that they can play in shaping our future.
